Up North at the Cabin adventure Jul 22 Written By Diane Davies Diane Davies reads Up North at the Cabin by Marsha Wilson Chall paintings by Steve Johnson “Up north at the cabin,I am a great gray dolphin. The lake is my ocean...Up north at the cabin,I am a fearless voyageur, guiding our canoe through the wilderness...Up north at the cabinI am always brave —even in the dark woods, when blood thumps through my headlike old Ojibway drums. The magic of summer, the call of the north woods, and the exuberance of childhood imagination combine here to create a book that will be treasured long after the last autumn leaf has fallen. Thank you! The book is based on my own experiences visiting cabins in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and yes, some even just a few miles from Canada on Rainy Lake. I never feel better, swim harder, ski faster, or eat more fish fry dinners than when I’m at the cabin. So do my kids, grandkids, and all of their friends. My family’s been enjoying the beautiful Northwoods on Leech Lake since my grandma came here a long, long time ago when there were hardly any roads and everyone bathed in the lake. We still do that sometimes (with biodegradable soap only!). I hope all of you listening to Grandma Diane read my book have a chance to go to the lake and enjoy all the fun things described and painted in the book. Maybe you’ll find many other new things to try—I couldn’t write about them all, so you could draw pictures and make your own story about what you do when you go up North (or down South!) to a cabin, campground, bike trail, or beach. We are so lucky to enjoy and learn from nature! So sorry you can’t visit your cabin in Ontario right now, Grandma Diane. Maybe if you close your eyes, you will once again be up North at your cabin. My very best, Marsha Wilson Chall” Up North at the CabinMWChall Diane Davies
